Az Eötvös szakirodalmat, esetleg a városi legendákat alaposan ismerők még az állatorvosi ló példáját hozhatják fel, az eredetlegenda azonban először Deák Ferenc által használtként tartja számon ezt a példát Eötvös József A falu jegyzője című regényére alkalmazva, így ezt sem lehet Eötvös-anekdotaként számításba venni. Ezekből állnak tehát, és idő- és tematikus rendben ilyen módon rendezhetőek az Eötvös Józsefhez szorosan kapcsolódó anekdoták és apróságok. ANECDOTES AND TRIFLES ABOUT JÓZSEF EÖTVÖS by Balázs Devescovi (Summary) The present paper, which takes the form of a source publication with introduction, takes stock of the anecdotes and trifles about József Eötvös. Although many such anecdotes and interesting stories connected to Eötvös have come down to us, these, unlike similar stories about Deák and Andrássy, have not been collected and published, despite their potential for characterising not only the person concerned but also the age in which he lived. The first part of the paper surveys the possible causes and ways of the survival of Eötvös anecdotes. It offers a review of the sources: of the memoirs of both the friends (such as Miksa Falk and Ferenc Pulszky) and collaborators (like Aladár Molnár, Károly Berecz and Mór Ráth) of Eötvös, demonstrates the high popularity of these anecdotes reflected by their repeated publications, and identifies as the possible source of origin of them Eötvös himself. The second part of the paper publishes the anecdotes and trifles themselves. Those which refer to the youth of Eötvös follow each other in a chronological order (secondary school years, university studies, the time of the great travels, and that of the family’s economic breakdown), and the others arranged into thematic blocks (for example, anecdotes illustrating the humanism of Eötvös, his extreme working capacity, his accessibility, modesty and readiness to help even as a minister, or those trifles and little stories which highlight him as a humorous, keen-witted or, at a young age, mischievous person, and those anecdotes which narrate the origins of the three great novels.).
