A MAGYARORSZÁGI HOLOKAUSZT HETVEN ÉV TÁVLALÁBÓL - Romsics Ignác: A numerus clusustól a holokausztig VI/1343

1354 ROMSICS IGNÁC the author deals in detail with the numerus clausus act of 1920, which restricted the number of Israelite students in higher education, and with the so-called anti-Jewish legislation after 1938, which introduced a quota-system, at first on a religious and later on a racial basis, in various professions, thereby seriously limiting the living possibilities of the entire Jewish population. Nevertheless, the Hungarian leadership resisted German demands which urged for the deportation of the Jews until the occupation of the country in March 1944. The consequent deportations, directed by the Germans with active Hungarian participation, which mainly struck the provincial Jewry, were halted by governor Horthy on 6 July 1944.
