1376 HAHNER PÉTER tolerance and the emancipation of the Jews. He warned his fellow representatives most determinedly of the grave consequences which inflation would cause. As the only prelate among the representatives, he swore the oath on the „civic constitution of the clergy", and tried to help the consolidation of the new ecclesiastical order by consecrating bishops. He launched the process of standardizing weights and measures, and assumed a leading role during the national festivity of 14 July 1791. And, finally, he prepared a grandiose and lengthy decree on the regulation of public education. He remained faithful unto his death to those principles and institutions which he defended in these years.
