Krónika - IX. International Oral History Conference VI/1296

1296 KRÓNIKA COMMUNICATING EXPERIENCE 13-16 June 1996 IX INTERNATIONAL ORAL HISTORY CONFERENCE CALL FOR PAPERS The international oral history conferences are meeting-places for researchers who utilize and analyse oral sources - interviews, life-stories, and oral traditions. Oral history is a method which today is used and recognized in many different disciplines all over the world. Communicating Experience is the general theme of the IX International Oral History Conference at Göteborg University, Sweden, 13-16 June 1996. How is human experience communicated? How is it transformed into permanent knowledge? The question embodies not only the means but also the hindrances for it. How can the communication of experience be utilized as a research methodology? What is the interplay between hegemonic strategies and popular resistance? Whose experiences become recognized and transmitted over generations? How come so much human knowledge is made tacit? We look forward to papers that analyse communication of experience not only through language but also through other means, such as stereotypes, both of „us" and „the others". We also anticipate papers regarding the disruption of communication, due to differences in class gender and generation. We invite you to send proposals for papers on the theme „Communicating Experience" before 1. February 1995 to the address below Apart from the title, your name and address we want an outline of the contents of your paper. The form of the proposal is one page, not more. We shall arrange a special video section according to demand. The main language is English. French and Spanish are the other two official languages of the international oral history conferences but will reach a more limited audience. During March 1995 we shall send out information about accepted proposals for papers together with a preliminary programme, including practical details. We strive to keep the costs down! We need your complete paper, of ten to fifteen pages, not later than 1 December 1995. Please, respond to our call for papers, also by distributing it to others and through sending us addresses to departments/people you think we should contact. Welcome to „Communicating Experience" in Göteborg 13-16 June 1996 Yours sincerely Sven В Ek Birgitta Skarin Frykman Secretariat: Department of Ethnology, University of Göteborg.
