Bujor Dulgău: Nobilimea românească în izvoarele arhivistice sătmărene

The Romanian nobility in the archives springs in Satu Mare County (summary) This study tries to reconstitute an image of the Romanian nobility through the angle of the reference springs, which are in custody of National Archives of County Direction Satu Mare. This nobility can be found in juridical and economic documents from XVIIIth century untill the first half of XIXth century. In the first category, the witness lists includes some Romanian noblemen. Richer infonnation we can find in fiscal and military documents. These information reports on three areas: Satu Mare County, Ugocea County and Chioar District. A great part of Chioar inhabitants were ennobled in XVIIth century for their military merits in the defence of Transylvania principality. The presence of Romanian nobility in the social structure of the time is an axiomatical reality. The little Romanian nobility has two features: we can find it only in villages and, also, it has no estates. They had to pay yearly fees and, in order to ensure their existence they were forced to take jobs on the big nobility properties or in industrial activities (mine, trades etc.).
