RECONSTRUCTION OF TWO ROMANIC CHURCHES FROM SOUTHERN TRANSYLVANIA USING VIRTUAL REALITY (Abstract) This study presents the three-dimensional reconstruction of two Romanic churches (Cisnădioara and Şura Mică) from southern Transylvania, using virtual reality technology. The importance and the utility of the virtual reality and 3d computer graphics in medieval archaeology and architecture have been already demonstrated in other countries, but unfortunately this method was not applied in Transylvania, and in Romania at all. The three-dimensional reconstructions of the two Romanic churches were created with the 3D Studio Max program (7.0 version), using the photos and the plans prepared prior. The goal of the virtual reconstruction of the two Romanic churches was to provide more possibility to re-examine the building, to view from different angels (for the visualization of the animations see http://arheologie.ulbsibiu.ro/), and “to fly’’ in time and space throughout the medieval monuments, in order to offer a better understanding of the sequence of the transformations and the changes occurred during the centuries.
