Primary Schools Schooling and literacy became an acute concern of the authorities, particularly in the urban areas, at the early 20th century. Therefore, substantial funds for building primary schools were spent in Satu Mare. The schools built in this period are thus part of a series of constructions with the same architectural aspect and structure. Out of the four schools built in Satu Mare between 1902-1904, Grigore Moisil Primary School was built in 1903 at the intersection of the Millennium street and Mihai Viteazu street. In the place of this school, the School Supervising Authority functioned here with Dariu Pop as its director, in the interwar period. Primary School No. 5 was built in 1902-1903 on the Wolfenbuttel street. As the building proved to be too small, a new wing was added to it in 1937.Two more schools were built in the same period, in the same architectural style: the present Sports Lyceum on loan Slavici street and Constantin Brâncoveanu Primary School near the New Center. These buildings are characterized by Neoclassical style, symmetry of ground-plan and monumentality. They have minimal decorations consisting of simple lesenas of brick.
