A háromemeletes neoklasszicista stílusú épület maszszív, bejárati csarnoka mozaikkal díszített. Díszterme a korra jellemző stukkós díszítésű. 1998-ban új szárnnyal bővítették. MihaiEminescu High School In the place of the present building ofthe Mihai Eminescu High School there was a building from 1634 situated inside the Satu Mare fortress. It was owned by the Jesuit Order, and it gave home to a school and a chapel. The Jesuit College existed until 1776, then it was taken over by the Paulician Order for a decade. In 1786 the school was closed, and it was only in 1805, after the founding ofthe Roman-Catholic Bishopric, that it could function again as a Roman-Catholic Gymnasium. In 1852 the Royal Roman-Catholic Gymnasium was established by unifying the Roman-Catholic Gymnasium with the Episcopal Lyceum. In 1919, the school - renamed Mihai Eminescu - became one of the first Romanian high schools, founded after the Romanian administration had been introduced in Transylvania. The present building was constructed in 1912, and it was one ofthe most impressive buildings ofthe city. It is a three-storied, massive building of Neoclassical style. Its main lounge assuring the access inside the building is decorated with mosaic. Its festivity room is decorated with stuccoes, characteristically to the era. A new wing was added to the building in 1998. ______________COLEGIUL EMINESCU • EMINESCU GIMNÁZIUM • EMINESCU HIGH SCHOOL 122
