Introducere

It is also the period in which the monastery at Mariapócs receives the spiritual status of first order that it still has today and at the same time the Bishops of the diocese, beginning with Bizanczy and Mihail Olsavszky, with great material efforts raise the monastery building as we know it today. In the fall of 1749, the works were completed and the monastery was solemnly consecrated. Here we must note the important role played by the counts Alexander and Francis Károlyi, although Catholics, in ensuring conditions for gaining a first rank status for the monastery of Mariapócs. In rest, the documents present less spectacular aspects of every day life of Greek Catholic communities: archpriest appointments, sanctification of priests, collection of tax for the bishopric (cathedraticum), collection of war taxes, sanctification of bishops etc. necessary for any history that aims to study the history of the Eparchy of Mukachevo and the rural communities. We mention that the documents brought to light are linked directly to the Greek Catholic Diocese of Mukachevo (Fund 151), the Bazilite monastery of Saint Nicholas from Mukachevo (fund 64) and the collection of Slavic and Romanian manuscripts which belonged to the diocese and which are kept today at the Library of the National University of Ujgorod. In the end we mention that the volume is the outcome of a collaboration of over 10 years between the Satu Mare County Museum and the State Archive of the Trans Carpathian region. The authors would like to thank in particular the State Archive’s staff from Beregovo. Without their support and dedication this volume would not have appeared: Olena Kutaşi (director), Mihovici Marina, Maria Ieremkina, Valentina Homin, Jujana Kremer, Larisa Leytai, Natalia Iagudina, Clara Starkova etc. 14
