In the last decades, the brides of Ugocea have taken over the “city fashion” with white dresses, veil and a coronet of artificial flowers. The wedding costume had a major importance in man’s life because it was also the clothing he/she would wear in the “life after death”, being buried with it, losing this way its traditional significance. It’s natural that the spirituality of Oas region has a notably dowry represented by many other values depicting people’s creativity, artistry, dances, traditions, age-old customs, skill in modeling clay in unique forms and colors, all forming a core unit which expresses the character and individuality of Ţara Oaşului. We mention here “the bride’s dance with the girls” or the extraordinary “lad’s circle”, which are archaic symbols of the young men passing to another social status, the numerous witty couplets for different customs or holidays, some of them containing moralizing messages, the dances with rhythmical beats of the feet releasing a boom of energy, as well as songs from the heart: “If I had to eat earth, I would still come to play for you!/ To drink water from the spring/ To play the forests from the heart...”. 120 Miri Молода та молодий Menyasszony és vőlegény Bride and bridegroom “Who dances and doesn’t sing/ May his mouth turn crooked/ May his nose grow broad/ And stay with crooked face forever/ Because this is the dance of Oas/ The old fashioned way”. The lines of the witty couplets depict moments of life and express feelings at the same time: “Sad man doesn’t die/ He only dries out from his feet/ Only his heart hurts!” “Who’s made me lonely?/ Longing and the beech leaf/ The difficult times that I have!”
