Traces of two settlements had been found within the territory of the Turulung locality, during the 1st millennium of the Christian era. The archaeological material found here during the archaeological excavations have investigated the Neolithic settlement from Turulung. The first of the settlements dates from the Roman age, in the 2nd - 4th centuries BC. The second settlement dates from the 7th - 8th centuries, when the early Slavs came in the north-west of Romania. Turulung is a village with a long history and, according to documentary sources, it is the oldest settlement in the Romanian former county of Ugocea.
