(Maramureş County today). He is a founding member of the County organization in Satu Mare of the Romanian National Party, and, in 1918, deputy in the Great National Assembly of Alba Iulia. He returns to Sanislău as parish priest in 1928. His involvement in the cultural and political issues of the area remained permanent, continuing his activity within the Cultural Association “Astra” and contributing to the establishment of “Arina” Bank in Sanislău. He died in 1952. Dumitru Coltău was also born in Sanislău, in 1883. He followed a career as an economist, working as an accountant at the main Carei branch of “Bihoreana” Bank. In 1918, he was one of the most important founding members of the Romanian National Council of Carei. His son, Coriolan Coltău, poet and translator of Ady Endre’s poetry in Romanian, was one of the foremost cultural personalities of Satu Mare. He published under the pseudonym “Costa Carei”. He followed an outstanding political career, reaching, in the years following World War II, a directorship within the Ministry of Minorities, too. Sanislău is the birthplace of the linguist Gheorghe Bulgăr (1920-2002). Illustrious scholar, he creates an impressive career at the prestigious universities of Romania and Europe.
