Archaeological Vestiges

Vestiges of Roman period are less known on Sanislău’s territory. It is probable, that the inhabitation of this period here is similar to that of Ciumeşti Commune, being practically the same geographical micro-region. The Daco-Roman Wars of Decebalus’s time, did not affect Sanislău Commune directly. Basing on the information available at this point, it can not be stated which of the barbarian peoples lived in this region. Only one Roman coin, a denarius of Emperor Vespasian, was found on the territory of the commune, and it suggests the existence of human communities during this period. A large number of archaeological discoveries of the late Roman period and the early Migration Age, were made in the Eastern part of the Carpathian Basin. They suggest the presence of a large population. The increase of the population is linked probably to the groups coming from Eastern Europe dislocated by the Huns. The pottery fragments discovered near Homoksor Street confirm the existence of a settlement of this period, while an inhumation grave, discovered in the SMA’s courtyard, indicates, probably, the existence of a cemetery. The history of Migration Age on the territory of Sanislău commune is difficult to trace, due to the absence of proper archaeological researches. Only Lanţ de centură din sec. III. í.
