An important moment in the history of Ciumeşti is the year 1768, when the part of the settlement that originally belonged to the Csomaközi family, was inherited, through female line, by Baron János Mészáros, one of the most famous personalities of his time. The Baron had an impressive military career within the Austrian Imperial Army, holding, in 1797, the rank of General of a Hussar regiment. In this quality, he participated in the war against the French troops led by Napoleon Bonaparte, making himself known in the Battle of Mantova (Italy today). In 1798, he withdrew from the military career and lived at his estate in Ciumeşti until his death in 1801. The Baron János Mészáros changed decisively the life of Ciumeşti, when he initiated the colonization of German families in the village. Their number is not known precisely, but it was probably a considerable one, since it managed to change the ethnic and religious structure of Ciumeşti from its very grounds. During the 19th century, after the marriage between Teleki László and Johanna, daughter of Baron János Mészáros, the Teleki family inherited an important part of the village. Other important families, such as Pogány and Dégenfeld, came to be owners in the village through purchase or inheritance, too.
