ble families of Károlyi and Vetési always possessed, alongside with the main owner, a substantial part of Ciumeşti. In 1329, following the division of the estates, possessed jointly previously with his relatives, Martin, a member of the Kaplony kindred, received the vast majority of Ciumeşti. Martins successors took the name of their main estate and started being known from that period as the “Csomaközi” family. The nobles of this family were the most important owners of Ciumeşti until the extinction of the family at the middle of the 18th century. Even since the medieval period, Ciumeşti was a wealthy village, with a large number of inhabitants, due to its fertile land, suitable for farming. At the end of the Middle Ages, the settlement got the status of oppidum (market town), which confered to it a higher importance as compared to the neighboring villages. The village of Embel used to exist within the present borders of Ciumeşti village. It was attested for the first time in 1390, but its exact site remained still unidentified. The village owners, the Vadai family, were descendents of the Kaplony kindred, too. Their name came from their residence, the village of Vada, located nearby Urziceni and which had disappeared, too. The history of Embel village can be traced back to the end of the 16th century, this being the assumed period of its end.
