The most important personality that links its name to Cămin Village is, undoubtedly, Bishop János Scheffler (1887-1952). He came to occupy the seat of the Roman Catholic Bishoprie of Satu Mare in 1942, during an extremely difficult and volatile period of politicalterritorial changes. He remarked himself through an intense activity in the construction of new churches, establishing new parishes and religious schools, among which the most important one was the Roman-Catholic Pedagogic School. In 1950, he fell as a victim of the communist terror, being arrested for political reasons and then interned in Jilava Prison where he died in 1952. Bishop János Schefflers beatification procedure for his martyrdom in the communist prisons is ongoing. Cămins inhabitants honour his memory at the statue placed in the churchyard and at the memorial plaque inside. Architectural monuments The first written reference to the church of Cămin dates back in 1427, but it mentions only a wooden chapel. The canonical visitation of 1748 mentions, however, the existence of an old stone church, built probably during the second half of the 15th century or at the beginning of the 16th century and reused by the inhabitants converted to Protestantism.
