♦ Entertainment room / Smoking room This room was designed to serve manly entertainment for men, but for women, too. it provides an intimate atmosphere for friendly talks, as well as an entertainment room with specific features: pipes, showcases for alcoholic drinks, tables for playing games, cards, bowling. The most famous game was billiards which has quickly spread across Europe especially amidst the high society of the 19th century. The preserved photos of Carei Castle prove that men of the Károlyi family had a billiard table at the end of the 190th century. Objects in the room: 1. Two armchairs and three chairs in Renaissance style; 2. Billiard table and accessories; 3. Table for playing cards and three chairs in Renaissance style; 4. Ceramic stove; 5. Sofa, armchairs and chairs with Arabic motives; 6. Table for “bowling”; 7. Tapestry with hunting scene; 8. Two landscape, end of 19th cent.; 9. Side-board and display-case in Renaissance style. ♦ Ball-room The large-sized room is restoring a hall that was designed for balls and events with dance. The ballroom is usually large, bright space, provided with few furniture. Its characteristic luxury is given by the rich decorations on the walls, by the numerous mirrors which visually enlarge the room, and by the quality of the furniture and accessories. At the end of the 19th century and the beginning of the 20th century the ball organized in the castle was an event of regional importance, not just a local one. Being a privilege of the high society, it gathered the influent members of the society in a luxurious event. Organizing such a high-standard event was a complex and difficult task for the mistress of the house, who was the main responsible with the quality of the ball. Preparations took several months to get everything ready, thus explaining why it was such a rare event. The material potential itself required for this event were quite considerable: the ballroom with proper dimensions to serve a dancing event, the guest rooms, the wardrobes, bathrooms, the adjoining rooms for entertainment, such as game rooms, rooms for the staff who had to be plenty ♦ Das Spielzimmer / Raucherzimmer Dieser Raum dient der geselligen Unterhaltung, insbesondere für Männer aber nicht nur für sie. Gleichzeitig schafft es eine Atmosphäre für intime und freundschaftliche Gespräche. Seine Ausrüstung dient diesen Zwecken: Pfeifen, Barschrank, Karten- und Bowlingtisch. Das beliebteste Spiel hingegen ist Billard, das in der Oberschicht der Gesellschaft des 19. Jahrhunderts sich rasch in ganz Europa verbreitete. Anhand von Fotos wissen wir, dass am Ende des 19. Jahrhundert ein Billardtisch sich auch im Schloss Károlyi befand. Ausstattung: 1. Zwei Sessel mit drei Stühlen im Renaissancestil; 2. Billardtisch mit Zubehör; 3. Renaissance- Kartentisch mit drei Stühlen; 4. Fliesenofen; 5. Sofa, Sessels und Stühlen mit Arabisch Motiv; 6. Bowling Tisch; 7. Wandteppich mit Jagdszene; 8. Zwei Landschaftsbildern, Ende 19. Jh.; 9. Beistelltisch und Barschrank im Renaissancestil. ♦ Der Ballsaal Der große Saal dient für die Abwicklung von Bällen und gesellschaftlichen Ereignissen. Der Ballsaal ist normalerweise ein geräumiger, heller Saal mit minimalen Möbeln. Die Grandiosität des Zimmers wird erreicht durch die reich verzierten Wände, und die Vielzahl von Spiegeln, die den Raum noch größer erscheinen lassen. Die Qualität und der Wert der Möbel und Accessoires steigern den Luxus und die Pracht. Im 19. Jahrhundert ist der Ball als Ereignis über seinen lokalen Charakter hinausgewachsen und war ein gesellschaftliches Ereignis von regionaler Bedeutung. Während früher die Teilnahme an einem Ball das Privileg der Oberschicht war, wurde es langsam zu gesellschaftlichem Ereignis. Die im Schloss organisierten Bälle sind seit jeher ein Vorbild für diesen luxuriöses gesellschaftlichen Event, ein unübertreffliches Muster von Luxus und sozialen Beziehungen in unsere Region. Die Organisation einer solchen Veranstaltung stellte eine schwere Belastung für die Hausherrin dar, da es ihre Verantwortung war, für das hohe Niveau der Veranstaltung zu sorgen. Die Vorbereitungen dauerten Monate, was die Seltenheit dieses weltlichen Ereignisses erklärt. Die Einladung zum Ball war eine Frage des Prestiges und des sozialen Ranges, während die Organisation selbst erhebliche finanzielle Mittel benötigte (ein Ballsaal von angemessener Größe, eine ausreichende Anzahl
