Through this guide-book the traveler can make a historical journey through the valley of Someş River, and thus it can make acquaintance with values of the local material and spiritual culture. The sites include impressive archaeological features, sumptuous ecclesiastical buildings reflecting the traditions of several cults, medieval strongholds, elegant castles and manorhouses, discovering values even in the remotest settlements of the Someş region. This guide-book proposes a cultural itinerary through the Someş valley and, in the same time, presents the highlights of the local history, based on solid sources. The pieces of information presented here were gathered during a years of documentation, being supported by various projects focused on the historical research of the region. The valley of the Someş River was a target zone of the project Culttour - Realization, extension and rehabilitiation of museum objectives in counties of Stau Mare and Szabolcs-Szatmár-Bereg, in the context of the cross-border cultural tourism, implemented by the County Museum of Satu Mare and Jósa András Museum, Nyíregyháza, Hungary, and financed within Hungary-Romania Cross-Border Co-operation Program, 2007-2013. The core actions of the project were the rehabilitation and development of tourism infrastructure of museum sites, among which the Memorial house of Vasile Lucaciu at Apa and the Archaeological Reservation at Medieşu Aurit are located in the valley of Someş River. In the same time, the project proposes to promote the results of recent historical and archaeological researches carried out in the region.
