Questions of Neolithic period ofNW Romania and neighbouring area (Abstract) The questions of F,arly Neolithic of NW Romania were solved according to the results of the archaeological excavations undertaken in ‘70—‘80 at Homorodu de Sus, Homorodtt ele Mijloc (Bader 1968), Dumbrava (Dumitraşcu, Ijuca 1991), Fughiu (Ignat 1978), Sttplacu de Barcău (Ignat 1978), Zăttan (Tazgrovici, Ixrk.o 1981). During the past two decades similar discoveries have been made at Tăşnacl—Sere (where Neta Iercoşan excavated for more than ten years) and at Că/ineşti— Dâmbul Sfintei Mării. The last one represents the northernmost site of Starcevo—Grip culture in Romania. Starcevo—Criş discoveries have also been made beyond the borderline of the area of Körös group, which has been imposed Iry hungarian scientists establishing the north limit in Beretău I 'alley (Ka/icz Makkay 1977, p. 18—19; Comşa 1960, p. 217-218; Ka/icz, 1971, p. 146—147). Such discovery also exist at Nagykörűből, Nagyecsed, Tiszgibezfled, Fenyeslitke, Tisgacsege, Rétkőzperencs, Méhtelek, in Ungaria, and Buciumi, Chendu, Ciunteşti, Dej, Drágít, Fughiu, Hámorod, Moigrad, Sarán, Zău an, Tăşnacl etc, in Romania (Lazproviri, Németi 1983, p. 25). The Middle Neolithic Pişco/t group is a cultural group which unfolds itself in North-West of Romania and which belongs to the large area of a painted pottery culture. This area is certificacled in Transilvania but also in eastern Hungary, Slovakia and Ukraine (Potushniak 1997, p. 37—39). A major problem of Romanian archaeology is that each research of an archaeological site bears a new cultural facies, cultural aspect, group or culture. For example then were many names given to one of the Jxite Neolithic phenomena: Ceşmeu, Suplacu de Barcău, Tisa II, Tisa—Herpály—Csőszhalom, Tisa II—Hetpá/y, Dumbrava-Sup/ac—Sa/ca Il—Seleuş, Dumbrava, Sa/ca-Herpá/y. 25
