Muzeul Civilizaţiei Ţărăneşti din nord-vestul României 399 The peasant civilization museum from north-west of Romania (Summary) Măriuş village from Satu Mare county is the place in which will originate one of the largest etnographical museums in the open air in Romania. The inhabitants of Măriuş donated to Satu Mare County Museum more than forty hectares of land. That is why the project of a museum was prepared, a museum that is representative for the peasant culture and civilization in the north-west of Romania. The existence of an ethnographical museum in the open air here, in the north-west of Romania was necessary, having a double mission : the rescue of traditional and patrimonial values and the dissemination of native culture, bringing the zone in an international touristic circuit. The ground is generous (plains , hills, woods , springs ), so the project stipulat es that ethnographical zones neighbouring to Sătmar, respectively: Sălaj , Bihor and Maramureş will be also represented. Counting on the fact that the Romanian north-west is a multicultural zone, in Măriuş museum will recover , also, typical evidence of the national minorities civilization, with specific features. Alongside of peasant household will find place, quite alike in native villages, further constructions which were integral parts of peasant world: school, town hall, grocery, technical installations, sheepfold, well of the village. Certainly, a weighty place will have the three woodchurches, monuments of folk architecture, which survived in time, typical for three types of villages comprised in the project. And because it did not exist village without skilled craftsmen, in Măriuş handicraft will be equiped workshops, with concrete demonstrations, destined to point out the skill and ability of the villager in processing of raw materials from his own farmstead. The project stipulates that an amphitheatre, a library will be also built , so Măriuş will become a real cultural centre, settled in a very generous environment, at the foot of the forest, having a legendary spring with miraculous recoveries. In order to combine cultural features with those typical of a touristic activity and in order to offer the public at large diverse facilities , the project stipulates that pleasure will be materialized resort, with a lake, camp houses, a restaurant, folk-art shops.
