Robert Conbas - Portret The Portrait in Contemporary Painting (Summary) This study analyses the impact on the genre, defined as classical, of the avantgarde movements(expressionism, cubism), which profoundly marked the modality of approaching the human face in contemporary painting. Oscdating between "abstraction" and between "negationist irrationalism" and "abstract rationalism" , approaching mainly the archetype form, paintings surpass the coordinates specific to the genre. Often resorting to "quotation" and "intertextualism", contemporary painting resets into discussion a genre whose new values, both on iconographical level and on the level of means ofpictorial expression, are discovered.
