Margolis NOVEMBER 5th For Progressive Government in Edison EDISON'S DEMOCRATIC CANDIDATES FOR THE OFFICE OF MAYOR AND COUNCILMEN — PLEDGE OF GOOD GOVERNMENT When elected to office we pledge ourselves to work for: SCHOOLS A representative Board of Education is a major goal. We will work with such a Board to upgrade the school system. This means a topflight teaching staff and the early establishment of a high school. % ROADS Township roads are in a sorry state. We intend to rebuild them mile by mile. Our long-term program will stop the practice of ''pouring sand into rat holes" and will in time give us smooth, lasting roads. HEALTH » Air pollution, private dumps, and violations of the weak codes now in effect, must stop. We will set up immediate safeguards for the public health. We will work for creation of a public hospital. RECREATION An expanded recreational program for all age groups is long overdue. We favor a competent directo. working with school officials, service organizations, and patriotic groups to bring this about in Edison. PASSING THE BUCK Prompt decisions by responsible officeholders is our answer to the aimless "buck passing" we know so well. We will fix responsibility for all duties so that any real grievance can be heard at once. EDISON'S FUTURE New developments and new industry will be welcomed but regulated so as not to outstrip our capacity to provide schools, fire and police protection, garbage collection, and other vital services. BLIGHTED AREAS We Intend to rebuild the depressed areas in Edison as quickly as Federal aid can be secured. Equally im* portant is preventing other areas from becoming blighted and depressing property Values. ECONOMY We pledge a full dollar's value for each public dollar invested in goods or services. Our budget will be realistic and fair so that the tax load will not discriminate against the home owner. SIDEWALKS AND SEWERS The need for sewers, curbs, gutters, and sidewalks grows with each passing day. We propose a rational pay-as-you-go approach to bring these improvements into every area of Edison. PLANNED PROGRESS < • * Action without planning is foolhardy. We propose that each department plan its program for a year in advance. Major issues presented by the Planning Board will receive careful review.
