STANDPOINT OF THE INDEPENDENT HUNGARIAN INITIATIVE TO THE SPECIFIC AIMS AND IDEALS LAID OUT IN THE LIBERAL INTERNATIONAL MANIFESTO The Independent Hungarian Initiative is aspiring along with the European, and espe cially Middle-European liberal forces to cre ate a liberal democracy in Czecho-Slovakia. We are convinced that the worthes laid out in the Liberal Manifesto, can lead us after a period of totalitarianism back to the world of the advanced democracies. We would like to build up a society, which takes its origin from self-organizing of free individuals. The state power and structure based upon collectivism have to be transfor med so that it serve the citizens, protect the ir human and civil rights. In this coherence the worthes involved in the Liberal Manifes to, are particulalry important for us and are very timely in the present situation of ours. One of the main aims of the Independent Hungarian Initiative is the social market economy, decentralisation of the power and demonopolisation. The ownership and its defence should be the fundamental princip le of the difficult process of privatization in our country. Our aim is the entire freedom of press and an independent press structure. The real legality can be secured only by independent jurisdiction, by judges who did not take part in the injustices of the past. The IHI is a supporter of peaceful colla boration of nations in Europe and in the world. We back up forming of such coopera tion systems between states that could poli tically stabilize the area and fasten it to wards the advanced democracies. The IHI would like to play a considerable part in this process. In the promising Hungarian-Cz,e- choslovak-Polish cooperation we wish to ar range the Slovak-Hungarian relation - one of the neuralgic points of this coalition - by using civilized political, economical and in tellectual means. Our political group works on collaborati on of national minorities in Slovakia. We believe in the principle of free development of different cultures, laid out in the Liberal Manifesto, and with enforcement of this principle we want to assist in solving of the problems of our area. We are not only aspiring to consistently enforce, but also to contribute to the deve lopment of the liberal principles. We belie ve that the renaissance of these ideals in our region can enrich the liberalism with such new elements that can carry' forward the de velopment of democracies in the world. 14 February 1991 < Published by .the .
