Erzberger, P.; Schröder, W.: The genus Schistidium (Grimmiaceae, Musci) in Hungary

Sporophytes common, much exposed in lateral view (Fig. 15F). Urn red-brown, finely striolate after dehiscence, length / width ratio (1.2-)1.5-1.9-2.3(-2.6) (BLOM 1996), in Hungarian material 1.85 ±0.3, n = 2. Exothecial cells irregular in size and shape, striolae composed of collapsed narrowly elongate cells. Stomata about 6 per urn. Peristome teeth (250-)290-380 urn, red, entire or rarely with median cracks in central part, finely papillose. Characteristic features of this species are the narrow hair-point (if present), which appears to be "glued on" to the leaf apex, being much narrower than the chlorophyllose part of the apex (Fig. 15A-C, F), and the capsule being well visible between the thin, appressed perichaetial leaves. Habitat: In Hungary, S. dupretii grows on ± exposed, dry limestone rocks or walls, but it has also been found on siliceous rock (trachyte); a wide substrate tolerance is also reported by BLOM (1996). Associated bryophytes: Scbistidium apocarpum, S. crassipilum. Vertical distribution: 250-375 m a.s.l. Fig. 16.
