Csontos, Péter, Tamás, Júlia; Balogh, Lajos: Thousend-seed weight records of species from the flora of Hungary, II. Dicotyledonopsida

reason of the relatively low seed weight data of non-woody perennials can be related to their two sorts of reproductive strategy. Most of the species in this group produce both seeds and clonal offsprings, thus the energy budget they allocate for reproduction has to be shared between the two sorts, and this may lead to smaller seed size. A direct comparison of seed weights between non-woody clonal perennials and obligate seeder perennials, would be a question worth for studying, however, this would require a more extensive data set. * * * Acknowledgements - We are indebted to Géza Facsar, Sándor Barabás and other colleagues for their contribution in collecting seed samples. Many thanks are due to Hedvig Punka for the accurate handling of the samples. Valuable remarks by István Rácz are gratefully acknowledged.
