Dobolyi, Konstantin: Study of the population dynamics of Linum dolomiticum Borbás (Linaceae)
19th century's palaeobotanical types and originals of the Hungarian Natural History Museum by L. HABLY, B. ERDEI and Z. KVACEK In this volume more than 500 fossil plant specimens deposited at the Hungarian Natural History Museum are discussed. All of them were figured or described during the 19th century in classical palaeobotanical works of European reputation: Kováts, Gy. (1856): Fossile Flora von Erdőbénye. - Arbeiten der geologischen ! Gesell, für Ungarn, pp. 1-37; Kováts, Gy. (1856): Fossile Flora von Tállya. - Arbeiten der geologischen I Gesell, für Ungarn, pp. 39-78; Unger, F. (1860): Sylloge plantarum fossilium. - Denkschr. math.-nath. Kaiser. Akad. Wiss. XIX: 1-48; Ettingshausen, C. (1866, 1868-69): Die fossile Flora des Tertiärsbeckens von I Bilin I—ITT. - Denkschr. Akad. Wiss. math.-nat. Cl., Wien, I: 1-98, II: 1-54, III: 1-110; Unger, F. (1870): Die fossile Flora von Szántó in Ungarn. - Sitz, math.-nat. 30: I 1-20. Most of the fossils presented in the volume had been labelled earlier with the | í remark "Old material from the Mineralogical Department". At first, Czech palaeobotanists were keenly interested in the specimens since the material of the floras sur- I rounding Bilin (Czech Republic) came to Budapest in the 1870-ies. As a result of a revision carried out on the old material more than 500 type and original specimens | I were recorded. The revision of names and of the age of the sites, as well as, valid geo- I graphical names in addition to the old German equivalents are discussed. This is the I first time after the drawings of the old monographical works that photos of the spec- I imens are published. Identification of specimens required the survey of the relevant palaeobotanical literature. Several specimens were taxonomically revised in the | scope of this work. The types and originals of the old monographs are discussed separately and all of them are documented by photographs. The publication of the abundant type and original material gives the Palaeobotanical Collection of the Hungarian Natural History Museum the rank of some European collections, like that of Wien, Prague, Gratz, Paris and Zürich depositing the material of the oldest monographs.
