The richest habitats are the ice holes and scree slopes. Based on the checklist of bryophytes of Romania published by MOHAN ( 1998), the following eight species represent new records for the Detunata Mts: Lophozia longidens (Lindb.) Macoun - Circumboreal, subarctic, montanesubalpine in Central Europe, associated with acidic substrates in spruce forests, like siliceous rocks, bases old tree trunks, decaying wood and peat bogs. Quite rare in the Romanian Carpathians: Tibles,, Ciuca§, Suceava. Ptilidium ciliare (L.) Hampe - Montane, circumpolar species occurring on acidic peaty soils, in form of short turf, often associating with deciduous and coniferous forests. Mnium spinosum (Voit.) Schwaegr. - Circumpolar species, forming dark green patches on turf, rock crevices in shaded habitats. Frequent in Romania. Pseudobryum cinclidioides (Hüb.) T. Kop. - Circumpolar, boreal species, being rare in Romania, known only from Maramure§ului-Rodnei Mts (MáramarosRadnai havasok), Hargita Mts, Sibiului-Cindrel Mts (Szebeni-havasok-Csindrelhegység), (BORZA 1959, ORBÁN 1975), also from Grädinita moorland and from the peat bogs of Drägoioasa located in Suceava county (MOHAN 1998). Diphyscium foliosum (Hedw.) Möhr. - Circumpolar species, frequent in Romania; here we found it on shaded soil.
