The front cover picture is a line drawing of Iris hungarica YV. et K. 1807 published in Descriptiones et icônes plantarum rariorum Hungáriáé (Vol. Ill, p. 226, 1812). Today it is considered as a subspecies of Iris aphylla L. It is a characteristic mem­ber of forest-steppe in NE Hungary (Zemplén Mts, Szendrőlád, Nyírség). It also occurs in Romania, Slovakia and the Ukraine. DOBOLYI Z.
