Erzberger, Peter: Distribution of Dicranum viride and Dicranum tauricum in Hungary

Book Review Iohannes Stirling: Lexicon Nominvm Herbarvm, Arborvm Frvcticvmqve Lingvae Latinae. ExaedibvsDomvs Editoriae "Encyclopaedia". Budapestini. Volvmen III: I-P 1998, l^tll pp. Volvmen IV: Q-Z, Appendix, 1998, 1-263, 265-279 pp. We did not have to wait too long, a mere one year, to see the subsequent two volumes of the title. Obviously these volumes follow the same structure as their predecessors. The artistic binding, the clear type-setting, the easy orientation among the current, the italicized and the bold texts make these handbooks excellent sample how should contents and form go hand in hand to best serve the scholarly reader. Astounding is the length of the letter P, it comprises not less than 133 pages amounting up almost to the quantity of the letters A and B in the first volume. The third volume is dedicated to two outstanding botanists Andrea Ubrizsy Savoia and Luciano Mauro, while the fourth to András Mócsy, the renown archaeologist, the once member of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences. The Appendix comprises 13 printed pages with the following titles and subtitles. The first part with the title: /. Addenda ad fontes et bibliographiam has three subtitles referring to antique sources, mediaeval sources, botanical and general bibliography (pp. 267-269). The second part consists of //. Addenda et corrigenda ad volvmen I. (pp. 270-275), and Addenda ad volvmen II. (pp. 276279), complementing the first and second volumes with items that escaped the attention of the author at the time of compiling this huge work. What better may I say but repeat my commendation when closing my book review of volumes I and II: "These beautifully designed volumes will come useful primarily to botanists, cultural historians and any students in fact interested in the history of plant names."
