The front cover picture is a line drawing of Iris hungarica W. et K. 1807 pub­lished in Descriptiones et icônes plantarum rariorum Hungáriáé (Vol. Ill, p. 226, 1812). Today it is considered as a subspecies of Iris aphylla L. It is a char­acteristic member of forest-steppe in NE-Hungary (Zemplén Mts, Szendrőlád, Nyírség).
