. This variety is a rare taxon with a ratner disperse distribution (ZANDER 1978). In Europe it has been reported from France and Switzerland (SCHIMPER 1876). Outside Europe it is known from India, Mexico, Cuba and Brazil (ZANDER 1978). The gemmae of var. gemmiparus are of different shape.
