Szolláth, György: Data to the flora and vegetation of the Gerecse Mountains I.

Our data were compared with the paper of Feichtinger (1899). Feichtinger gives 1430 species and subspecies (a few of them are cultivated). He had examined a part of county Esztergom as well as the eastern part of county Komárom and the southern part of county Hont so his data are related with the vegetation of the whole of Gerecse and Visegrádi Mts. parts of Börzsöny and Pilis mountains, right and left banks of river Danube, southern margin of Pozsonyi-medence and islands of river Danube (cf. Feichtinger 1899). While wandering the territory we have found 547 species (as well as subspecies and varieties) on Gete group. After comparing the two flora-list we have found that 1) only 36 species were recorded that cannot be found in the paper of Feichtinger; the difference is very small, especially if considering that many of these taxa were recently described and there are subspecies and varieties among them which were not yet separated that time. There are some notable species among the differential ones e. g. Cotinus coggygria and Eleagnus angustifolia which are mentioned as rare ornamental plants of parks and gardens by Feichtinger. Nowdays they occur in quite another way: unfortunately Eleagnus angustifolia can be met very often because of the forestry plantations. It is very interesting that Feichtinger did not find Astragalus exscapus - though extended sandy herbs were found on his territory - and according to his paper Pulmonaria mollissi- ma - which often can be met in Gerecse Mts. and other places - doesn't occur there. 511 species - 93% of our list - is included in the paper of Feichtinger but he often gives marks of localities in general (e. g. "common", "in rock-vegetations"; after concrete localities he says "...and in other places", et&) so we do not know which one did he find in Gete group. 2) There are 81 species with mark of Dorog, Tokod and Csolnok which cannot be found in our list. These species partly are members of the plant-communities of sandy- and sodic herbs and swamps. Since it was not the compiling of flora-list our most important task there are very few data of localities though it is also the fact that many of them were done away after the turn of the century, in the other hand, the place-names may also include parts outside the area of examination. 3) Those species which he said to be common and that ones which possibly can be found in the communities of Gete group - approximately 150 species of the list of Feichtinger - also were selected. (Species living on different rock-beds and along streams, and beeches of higher lands were, of course left out of consideration.) It follows that flora-list of Gete group may increase with about 150-200 species during the subsequent examinations so this area is investigated in average.
