ABSTRACT: The authors have studied the distribution, diversity and equitability of three species of Gentiana and Gentianella ciliata in relation to different factor gradients (altitude, precipitation and habitat) and flowering time. Maximum and minimum, both values of diversity are observed in G. cruciata , maximum for altitude and minimum for habitat factor. In case of equitability, highest value n*ts been observed in G. cruciata for habitat factor while lowest value in G. asclepiadea for precipitation. For the equitability calculated in relation to the highest number of each factor gradient, also, we find different values in different species in habitat and altitude gradients. In flowering time highest value has been found in G. pneumonanthe and lowest in G. asclepiadea. INTRODUCTION Gentiana L., an interesting perennial (rarely annual) Genus of Gentianaceae is mostly in the temperate regions and even extends to the arctic and alpine zones. GRISEBACH (1839) and KUSNEZOW (1896-1904) vividly described the systematic and geographical range of Gentiana . more particularly details of the distribution of German and Russian species. Hungarian Gentiana has been worked out in details by JAVORKA (1925), SOÓ and JAVORKA(1952) and SOO (1966) in their floristic manuals. Originally six species of Gentiana were reported from Hungary: G. ciliata L . , G, asclepiadea L. , G. pneumonanthe L. , G. cruciata L. , G. livonica (Ledeb. ) Esch. , G. austriaca A. and J. Kern. SOÓ (1. c. ) following KUSNEZOW (I.e. ), however, transferred two species: G. livonica and G. austriaca to the genus Gentianella . In our numerical evaluation of Gentiana , we discussed in detail the separation of Gentiana and Gentianella (SZUJKO-LACZA - SEN 1976, 19 77). In the present paper we have made an attempt to study the pattern
