Cudovit Hallon - Miroslav Londâk A probe into the archive materials of so-called Privileged companies, which wholly controlled foreign-trade relationships of the producers in all sectors of the Slovak economy from 1948 to 1950 draws an approximate picture of the trade structure between Slovakia and Austria in the first period after the accession of the communist regime. The probe also documents the fact that in mutual goods exchange until the end of the 1940s besides food supply also other traditional commodities from previous decades continued. The following table shows the structure of Austrian — Slovak trade according to the entries about trade mediated by the Privileged companies in 1949. From the entries we have here at disposal we can read that the value of imports from Austria was higher than Slovak exports. It was a result of the combination of goods, as finished goods had a greater share in the imports of Austria than in the exports from Slovakia, which were dominated by traditional raw materials and semi-finished products such as wood pulp, charcoal, antimony or chemical semi-finished products.
