I. Für eine Kulturgeschichte der Eisenbahn / Towards a cultural history of railways - Michael Cotte: Railways and Culture: An Introduction

Michael Cotte cantly, we can also note their global vision of the regional development through the railway equipment. It was quickly understood by the Seguins as a large integrated industrial pool. That was very new at that time and the St-Etienne & Lyon Railway was conceived as a very complete structure within stations coupled with inland ports, workshops for locomotive and wagon construction, mines at higher altitudes, commercial docks and industrial zones at lower altitudes. The strong organisation of the company was a typical feature: first for the construction, second for the operating period. It was a precursor company for complex railway management.1’ Fig. 5 The line construction organisation of the Company (1827-1833) Figure from: Cotte, Michel: Innovation et transfert de technologie, le cas des entreprises de Marc Seguin, 1815—1835.
