Vizuális kétnyelvűség napjaink Szlovákiájában 139 (Nemeskosút) only Kosút, instead of Jahodná (Pozsonyeperjes) only Eperjes was used, despite the fact that the local authorities urged to use the prefixed version. It was specifically odd that in the case of Kajal (Nemeskajal) the prefix was not a problem for the Ministry of Culture and the settlement got on the list in this form. The legislation allows for the population to propose modification of minority-language place names through referendum in accordance with the population’s needs. Such a referendum in Slovakia has not yet taken place. Let’s travel bilingually We could consider the issue of minority language use regarding road place-name signs if not fully, but basically sorted out, if in reality we did not experience massive deficit of Hungarian place-name signs. During the most recent comprehensive survey conducted in January 2012, the Bilingual Southern Slovakia Movement’s activists documented 43 settlements in southern Slovakia (altogether 97 cases), where the Hungarian equivalent under the Slovak village name was missing illegally. Logically, the question arises: if the use of minority place names on signs indicating the beginning and end of settlements is approved and validated in practice, do the same Hungarian/Ruthenian and German place names appear on other transport signs in the parts of the country inhabited by minorities? Unfortunately, the answer is simple, because we cannot find any road signs or signs containing minority place names put up by state bodies anywhere in the countiy. Ces premiers éléments sont variables : soit ils ont rapport à la région, au paysage, soit ils servent à ce que les municipalités hongroises dans le bassin des Carpates portant le même nom puissent être distinguées. Dans certains cas ils servent à éviter les redoublements à l’intérieur de la Slovaquie, par exemple dans le cas de Eperjes (en slovaque : Prešov, arrondissement de Prešov/Eperjes) et de Pozsonyeperjes (en slovaque : Jahodná, arrondissement de Trnava/Nagyszombat). Certaines forces politiques slovaques, pour des raisons inconnues, croyaient découvrir l’héritage de l’ère Horthy dans ces premiers éléments, or, ils n’ont pas donné leur accord pour les mettre sur la liste devant les noms de villes (ce débat a presque scellé le destin de l’affaire du décret gouvernemental). Par conséquent, il ne restait que Radnovce (Radnót) au lieu de Nemesradnóť, Košúty (Kosút) au lieu de Nemeskosút, Jahodná (Eperjes) au lieu de Pozsonyeperjes, malgré le fait que même les conseils municipaux ont décidé d’utiliser les formes avec de premiers éléments. C’est curieux que dans le cas de Kajal (Nemeskajal), le premier élément ne posait pas de problème au ministère de la culture et ladite municipalité pouvait figurer sur la liste en cette forme. Le règlement judiciaire permet aux habitants de proposer de modifier, au cours d’un référendum, le nom de ville fixé par décret selon les demandes des habitants. En Slovaquie, il n’y a pas eu lieu de tel référendum. 2 note : « nemes » signifie « noble » en hongrois.
