This last problem, as well as the problems of those maps that deal with more cultural phenomena cannot be solved at once, as it would mean a new arranging of the data of some maps. But as these kinds of maps occur only rarely, they do not influence the main result. The distribution of cultural regions as defined by computer On the basis of the theoretical principles of this kind of investigation, I now present the first, preliminary, results of this research, and show the cultural regions of the Hungarian-speaking territory, or to be more precise, the clusters of 417 settlements defined by the computer on the basis of their cultural characteristics as shown in the Atlas of Hungarian Folk Culture. I do not intend to analyse the result in detail, but shall simply refer to the most interesting parts of it. The body of data put under analysis consists of all the separate maps and of all the settlements, without leaving out any of the problematic ones. The result correlates very well with the cultural regions determined by other means and can offer some new aspects in the investigation of the territorial distribution of Hungarian folk culture around 1900. So we can define a more and more detailed picture of cultural areas of the Hungarian-speaking territo-55
