Dénes Dienes: History of the Reformed Church Collég in Sárospatak (Sárospatak, 2013)
SPIRIT AND MOOD - Notes
SECONDARY SCHOOL AND COLLEGE 180 none other than the nationally renown famous composer, Pongrác Kacsóh. He gave an excellent lecture one night on the history of music in the prayer-hall and, then, coupled to this a beautiful demonstration of his art. The following year, the College was the venue for the very first rural meeting of the Hungarian Ethnographic Society. In the wake of this, the Ethnographic Association of Sárospatak was founded in 1912 and thereafter was able to offer research grants for students every year. These randomly selected examples also show that the College of Sárospatak was much more than an educational institution and how it remained the most important intellectual centre of the upper-Tisza region, in spite of the gradual marginalization of the region, the growth of Miskolc and Sátoraljaújhely and the many other challenges which it faced throughout the years. János Komáromi (1890-1937) was from Upper Hungary. He studied at the High School of Sárospatak at the turn of the century. His biographical novel (first published in 1925) is a nicely written record of his school in Patak in the years before World War I. KOMáROMÍ JálNOS PACAKI DIÁKOK QENUJS tCIAOÄS
