SPIRIT AND MOOD - Notes
123 Mihály Csokonai Vitéz (1773-1805). Despite the fact that he studied in Patak only for a short while, he was greatly respected, almost idolized, by the students. They even painted the title page of his volume of poetry entitled Anakreóni dalok (Anakreon Songs, edited in Vienna in 1813) on the wall of the College’s pub with a quotation from his poem Búkergető (Sorrow Chaser) NOTES The quote in the title of the chapter can be found in a letter which István A. Molnár wrote in 1832 in Vienna: SRLt. B.LIV. 23 651. This chapter contains, at several instances, abridged and heavily edited or paraphrased excerpts from two of our previously released biographies: János Ugrai: Professors of “the Reform Era in Patak.” Four professors of the Reformed Church College in Sárospatak in the first thirty years of the 19th century. Budapest, 2007, and János Ugrai: Autonomy and Vulnerability. The operations of the Reformed Church College in Sárospatak, 1793-1830. Budapest, 2007.
