2017 / 4. szám - TANULMÁNYOK - Kovács Kálmán Árpád: Adalékok a protestáns patronátus dualizmus kori kérdésköréhez

Adalékok a protestáns patronátus dualizmus kori kérdésköréhez What makes the consideration of the issue difficult is that Protestants classified as patronage anything that remained of this institution in ecclesiastical governance and Church sustainment. Certain decisions during the more conservative Theresian and Franz-Josephian periods strengthened the legal viewpoint that patronage could be pursued strictly in the interests of Catholics. The transition of this fundamentally feudal institute into the Bourgeois Era was thanks to actions taken in 1850 and 1855 during the Era of Neo-Absolutism in Austria and in 1880 and 1885 during the Tisza Era in Hungary. Despite the myriad attempts to rewrite the legal rules pertaining to patronage, none prevailed; moreover, the government expanded its administrative reach into this area in 1896. All of these kept the thematics of religious resentment on the front burner, for the message to the public was that non-Catholics were responsible for sustaining the Catholic Church, while the reverse was not the case. This however seriously breached the constitutional principles of reciprocity and equality as laid down in the 1791 and 1848 laws related to interconfessional relations. 2017-4 Sárospataki Füzetek 21. évfolyam 45
