Abstract

The basic doctrine of The Second Helvetic Confession is: preaching God’s Word is the Word of God. Regarding our preaching practice today, the study discusses the homiletical conditions that justify this statement. Based on the Confession, the study deals with the Reformation and New Reformation Theology, i.e. the theology of the Word of God (Barth, Thurneysen, Bonhoeffer, István Török), emphasizing that we still believe in the miracle of preaching as it is stated in the Confession, and we expect the „renewal” from it.

By grace, through the Spirit of God, we still experience the truth and reality of the Confession’s doctrine. At the same time, the study emphasizes that the theology of the Word correctly speaks about questions and problems related to preaching, that is, it tells about the dual (divine and human) nature of preaching.

The findings of empirical homilies in the interest of preaching can also be useful in the context of the theology of the Word, especially highlighting the now dominant Anglo-Saxon homiletics which gave further considerations to the essences of empirical realizations in the light of the theology of the Word (Craddock, Buttrick, T. Long).
