Bucerről tudjuk,1 hogy megjelent 1529-ben egy zsoltárkommentárja, amelyet angolra is lefordítottak. Ebben a korban nem Bucer volt az egyetlen, aki behatóan foglalkozott a zsoltárokkal. Megtette ezt Erasmus (1515), Lefévre (1508), Luther (1519-1521), Bugenhagen (1524), Pellican (1527). Bucer jelentősége kortársaival szemben mégis abban áll, hogy ő volt az első olyan kommentátor a tizenhatodik században, akinek műve már egy keresztyén hebraista széles körű szakértelmét, tudását tükrözi, amint azt az adott könyv eredeti héber szövegének fordítása és alapos magyarázata is mutatja.2 Bucer jártasságát jellemzi a témában, hogy zsoltárokról szóló előadásokat tartott Hei- delbergben 1519-ben, és, mint az erre vonatkozó utalásokból tudjuk, még Strasbourgban is 1524-1525-ben, majd 1528-1529-ben. Bucer ilyen témájú művei sok helyen fellelhetők:3
