A nagyszékelyi református németek néprajzából RÖVIDÍTÉSEK: NSZRE = Nagyszékelyi Református Egyházközség RL = Ráday Levéltár TMÖL =Tolna Megyei Önkormányzat Levéltára TtREL =Tiszántúli Református Egyházkerület Levéltára Abstract From the Ethnography of Reformed Germans in Nagyszékely During the visitation of bishop Károly Szász, the German congregation in Nagyszékely (Großsäckl) was one of the most prestigious congregations of the Outer-Somogy Diocese. The number exceeded 2,000. While the Germans grew, the Hungarian Reformed decreased. At the beginning of the 20th century, József Berkes wrote about the decline of the German congregation for the visitation by László Ravasz. According to him the reason was that the Germans took over the habits of the Hungarians. Having only one child had previously not been typical of the Germans at all, but it appeared in the 1920s in their circles as well. Church order was loosened, the number was around 1,000. The real and final blow to the German congregation was brought about by resettlement. The village is heavily depleted; today there is a population of around 500 people. In the village with two Reformed churches, the number of those confessing to be reformed is less than 100 supporters. The majority of those who moved in are Roman Catholic.
