A ke dság e akb — Abstract Proving the efficiency of Christian prayer by research and surveys Since the 19th century, scientists, physicians, psychologists have started to study scientifically the spiritual phenomena of prayer. There are more than 130 studies and 200 researches on this topic. Generally saying, there is a lot of evidence that prayer really has provable effects. For example, they found that through intercessory prayer some patients in hospital have become healthier and need less antibiotics and drugs. Other studies revealed that prayer and participation in religious ceremonies has blood pressure lowering effect and curative effect in mental problems. One of the most recent studies comes from Andrew Newberg, scientist, founder of Neurotheology, who examined the effects of intercessory prayer, private prayer, attending religious services and being involved in church activities. They found 47 benefits of doing these activities, like: becoming more forgiving, living a longer life, protecting teens against drugs, reducing genetic risk for depression, increasing happiness and financial satisfaction, protection against stress and many others. But above all that, the primary role of prayer is not these results, but communication with the living God. Sárospataki Füzetek 17. évfolyam 2013 I 3 103
