Abstract

The Biblical meaning and practical Theological ASPECTS OL OLLERING

Offering is a frequently misunderstood and incorrectly interpreted element of our worship. This study is an attempt to clarify the most important Biblical and theological aspects of offering. A lot can be found about giving offerings in the Bible; in the Old Testament laws, in the prophets, in the teachings of Jesus and in the epistles of the apostles. The most important theological aspect of offering is that it appears in a soteriological context, as an answer to God’s saving and blessing act. The study also discusses the forms, ways and purposes of offerings. Finally, it formulates some practical theological conclusions — ecclesiastical, liturgical, homiletical and diaconial ones.
