people residing in Debrecen. The study briefly describes the two major conflicts Kazinczy had, first as the local educational inspector, and second as a participant in the debates about neology. The Debrecen people did not agree with Kazinczy’s way of treating Csokonai’s oeuvre either. Still the town and its school owe a lot to Kazinczy, for example, in relation to the botanical garden, the way he paid attention to teaching art, to the matters of the library and the new buildings in town.
