Kálvin kulcsok hatalmáról szóló tanítását és bibliamagyarázatát öszevetve a mai református igemagyarázatokkal érezhető, hogy nincs nagy különbség közöttük több évszázad távlatából sem. A kálvini értelmezés hatja át a mai írásokat, sőt a testvéregyházak egzegézisei sem állnak távol tőle. A kiválasztott négy felekezet /református, evangéliukus, baptista, római katolikus/ képviselői is merítenek a kálvini igei látásmódból.

Calvin on the keys of the Kingdom of Heaven

Calvin expands his teaching on the keys of the Kingdom of Heaven in relation to the false sacraments under the theme of repentance in the 1536 edition of the Institutes. In the 1559 edition he discusses it in chapters on the primacy of the Holy See, church discipline and repentance. This study presents the relevant passages from both editions from various aspects. The Biblical references Calvin uses in his explanation are examined. The background of Peter’s primacy is also considered in light of Mathew chapters 13-20. For Calvin preaching should be understood by binding and loosing. The power of the keys means announcing the forgiveness of sins. Church discipline has a threefold purpose; excommunication should be distinguished from anathematization. The powers of the keys are also given to the community of believers.
