2009 / 4. szám - TANULMÁNYOK - Fekete Csaba: Az énekíró Beregszászi Pál (1751-182)
Az énekíró Beregszászi Pál ( 1 7 5 1 — 1 8 2 9) One of the authors of the new sacred songs was P. Beregszászi. He was mistakenly identified with a 17th century preacher of the same name, who published a historical poem of his own history, robbed by Tartars. The present study sums up the life of the i8-i9th century preacher. He studied at Sárospatak and Zurich (Switzerland). His five poems in the 1806 hymnal have never been analysed. Their topics are attached to seasons, kept traditional, fluent, and easy to sing. Traditionally, the Reformed church was based on rural congregations, Hungarian peasant life-style and mentality of its agricultural society. Nearness to nature and naive beliefs as well as open heartedness disappeared after the world war, but these are permanent human values and still important in our days. We have very little means to replace them, also in church life. Religion always involves archetypes and is bound up with classical style of poetry.
