HOW CAN WE GO FORWARD ? REVOLUTION Listening to Lennon & McCartney’s song REVOLUTION we learn that the change must be more than outward; it must bring a new consciousness. There is a critique of the violent New Left movement of the 1960’s. The music of REVOLUTION is jarring, clashing. One of the repeated phrases is ’it’s gonna be alright’, but the music’s tonal qualities of disharmony intentionally challenges this message. You say you wanna a revolution, well you know, we all wanna change the world you tell me that it’s evolution, well, you know, we all wanna change the world, but when you talk about destruction don’t you know that you can count me out: you know it’s gonna be all right, all right, all right you say you got a real solution, well you know, we’d all love to see the plan, you ask me for a contribution, well you know, we’re all doing what we can but if you want money for people with minds that hate all 1 can tell you is brother you’ll have to wait: you know it’s gonna be all right, all right, all right you say you’ll change the constitution well you know, we all wanna change your head; you tell me it’s the institution, well you know, you better free your mind instead! but if you go carrying pictures of Chairman Mao you ain’t gonna make it with anyone anyhow, don’t you know it’s gonna be all right, all right.... The song REVOLUTION shows,that Lennon was searching more inwardly for spiritual orientation than outwardly for social programs. Of course, various Beatle songs have strong social messages, especially the one which became a theme song against wan GIVE PEACE A CHANCE.
