THE MESSENGER Newsletter of the Kossuth Club March 2011. Vol. 17. No. 3. Looking into the Crystal Ball. On January 7th Friends of the Selby Public Library organized a fundraiser for the new Teen Center in the library. Thirty performers, including a Gypsy violinist, a mandolin quintet, a jazz trio, dancers, singers, guitar players and pianists provided a variety of entertainment. Several restaurants, including First Watch, the Bijou Café, El Greco, and others served food and drinks throughout the building. The Kossuth Club sponsored the event and our volunteers Éva Kisvarsányi, Cathy Fenyves Vegliante and Joe Vegliante worked in the Box Office. Several hundred people attended a first but hopefully not the last of such events for the Friends of the Library. We appreciate the opportunity to meet in the Geldbart Auditorium every month for the past ten years and would like to continue to do so in he future. Annual Luncheon and Concert. Saturday, March 5 at 11:30 AM in the Prestancia Country Club (4409 TPC Drive, Sarasota) there will be a luncheon followed by a concert featuring the popular Canadian singer Masi. Founded in 1906, AHF is the largest Hungarian-American umbrella organization in the United States. It is among the oldest ethnic organizations in the country. AHF was established as an association of Hungarian societies, institutions and churches to “defend the interests of Americans of Hungarian origin in the United States. ” Over the past 100 years, AHF’s mission has broadened to include support of people of Hungarian descent on both sides of the Atlantic and in the successor states of the Carpathian Basin. The Federation strives to unite the American Hungarian community through work that supports common goals. AHF is a national, non-partisan, independent umbrella organization representing the interests of its member organizations and the Hungarian American community. Mr. Koszorús will remember his father, the late Col. Ferenc Koszorús, a Hungarian patriot who fought both the nazis and the communists and had to flee his native Hungary. Please join us! 4
